Times and Tickets
Durham World Heritage Site Visitor Centre is open daily and is free to enter.
Our team of staff and volunteers will be able to provide you with information to make the most of your visit to Durham’s World Heritage Site. You can:
- Be introduced to Durham’s World Heritage Site
- Purchase Castle Tour Tickets
- Find out about events and activities taking place across Durham World Heritage Site.
Restricted access to areas of Palace Green Library
Due to essential works, there will be a period of restricted access to some areas of Palace Green Library throughout April and May.
The planned works will affect access to the following areas:
- Barker Research Library
- Penned and Printed exhibition
- Some areas of our World Heritage Site Visitor Centre
- Baby change facilities
The above spaces will be open at the following times during the week (subject to change). Normal opening times apply at weekends (please note, is closed Saturday and Sunday as usual):

Note: We are open until 7pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month April to October and the 4th Thursday of the month November to March.
During December we are closed from 24th until 26th, open from 27th until 30th, 11am-4pm, and then closed again December 31st and January 1st .
